So, I must admit I didn't realize this on my own, someone pointed it out to me, but there are some quirky counting things most of us do when we could be using simple math. I will speak for myself here, but I am pretty sure most of us do these things.
When you arrive at a restuarant and they ask you how many people will be at your table if there are more than 3 people I always look around me and count. I feel so panicked I am going to mess it up. It's hillarious because in most cases you already know the number. For example, there are 6 people in my family. Always have been. So if we are all there, I shouldn't have to count. If 1 or even 2 of us are missing, I should just subtract that number from 6 in my head and be done with it. But, I don't. I look around me and point counting (usually out loud) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
When I am trying to figure out how many hours of sleep I am going to get, I use my fingers to count it out. Even if I am going to bed at midnight and waking up at 7am. I really can figure out that math without counting out the hours, but I never do. Maybe I subconsciously do it because it is so satifying to think of each hour that I get to spend asleep. I don't know. Whatever the reason.... my heart or my shoes...hee hee hee jk.
I think we are all a little quirky and I find it endearing.
